THE DRIVERS OF THE VETERAN STUDEBAKER ALSO MADE A NEW RECORD ON THE SECOND LEG OF THEIR “HEMISPHERE TO HEMISPHERE" JOURNEY WHEN THEY ROLLED INTO LA PAZ, THE CAPITAL OF BOLIVIA, 18 DAYS OUT OF BUENOS AIRES. TO REACH LA PAZ THE DRIVERS HAD TO CROSS THE BOLIVIAN BORDER AT "TRES CRUCES," A LOPTY MOUNTAIN PASB COVERED WITH SNOW.

THE MORRIS SPORTS MODEL

For the Youth in a

Hurry,

The Hon. Maynard Groville writes to the Morning Post

B

Young men and women of to-day are always in a hurry, and it is probable that the next few years will ace the desire for speed stil further developed. It is also eat afying to the inferiority complex of the youngest member of the family to be able to show a clean pair of heels, or rather wheels, to his father's more sedate car.

To the Morris Garages belongs the credit of having realised that. there was a market for a "hotted up" type of the Morris factory's own famous production, and they accordingly set to work to produce a car with a special performance, and sporting appearance, simply by modifying the ordinary Morris

After a terrible ordeal in the desert, with Sparkes too weak to hold up his machine, they found an Arab outpost of police, who re- fused to let them continue until morning.

At Tel-e-For, Sparkes charged straight, through the town, but Glanfield stopped and was sur rounded by a flerce crowd of Bed- ouins.

Proof of Experience.

On the road I found the car was ["thoroughly competent to perform the work for which it is adapted, The bodywork is perfectly sound and well conceived when it re- membered that it is intended for young and active people,. It has an attractive and sporting appeaz- ance and supplies quite suficient comfort for those with supple limbs.

The car that I tested had cover- ed some 15,000 miles in its time, but did not show any signs of weariness and was full of snap and vigour. The specially extended and bent over central gear lever makes changing a delight, and 451 miles an hour could be reached comfortably on the second gear, while changing up or down could be done at high speeds if the, orli- nary decencies of the gearbox were? observed. TWO BIG ONES FROM THE NEW

From Basra, the machines were shipped to Bombay. By now the riders were well behind with their programme, owing to the Custom delays in Anatolia and Turkey, and us Sparkes leave was running short, he took the southerly route through India to Ceylon, and so to Australia, while Glenfold carried on across India to Calcutta.

Glanfeld covered the 1,800 miles between Bombay and Calcutta in six days and on one occasion being dragged out of bed at midnight and requested to kill a tiger, which had appeared in a village."

From Calcutta be shipped to the Straits Settlementa.

Meanwhile Sparkes made for Bangalore, and so on to the coast where he shipped for Ceylon..

At Colombo Sparkes caught the boat to Adelaide und, covering 1,500 miles to Sydney, shipped for. San Francisco, and no to South- ampton, where he arrived recent ily.

Mr. Glanfield, who is determined to put in a much greater land mil- enge than originally arranged, is now halfway across Australia with the machine going well.
