A restriction of the amount of sugar imported from the Philip. pines duty free was asked in a resolution adopted here to-day by the United States Beet" Sugar Association.
At the instigation of Mr. B. J. Keeley, manager of the Aslatle Petroleum Conipany's offices at Tai Kok Tsui, Kowloon, a Chinese motor driver appeared before Mr. W. Schofield, at the Kowloon yesterday. on A Magistrate, The resolution stated that, the charge of larceny of our four- American sugar industry faced angallon tins of benzine, the pro- economic crisis owing to an in-perty of the A.P.C. creasing invasion of the domestic market by sugar produced in the tropics with cheap labour and low standards of living with which the American farmer and manu facturer was unable to compete.
