Chinese On Board,
After leaving the ship I laid down and went to sleep. The next thing I knew there was a lot of Chinese in the launch, and one of them told me he wanted to use the Launch and pulled out a gun. At what wharf they were at I do not know, for I was kept down below, and they went to some wharf on Pootung side and tied up. The next thing that happened there was a lot of shooting, and the launch got underway. One of the men, that spoke good English, told me if I said anything he would get me, us he knew where I lived.
There was no light in the launch so I could not see any of their faces.

True Science,
Father Bede Jarrett, preaching in the Catholic cathedral, said the Catholic Charch to-day absorbed science and would continue to ab- sorby scrence if it were: true science, treating of God's workman- up and therefore leading to knowledge of God. LATEST QUOTATIONS.
Crose-examined by Mr. Wing, witness said that the accused was in the service for two and a half years, adding that when off duty it was not his business what the man did. Asked about the crew of the Carlson, the launch inspector said that the crew consists of the laodah, two boatmen, a fireman, an engineer, all Chinese, and one for- eigner. The foreigners are not al ways on the launch, they can be changed at any moment. Refer ring to an occasion of some oplum being smuggled, as to what he had to do Inspector Bournes said that Bukit K. B's he would have to report the matter at once, which would take him about 25 minutes, witness agreeing with Mr. Wing that it would pro- bably be of no use.
