The days la the "seventies when Mr. Bernard Shaw was a clerk, are recalled by the playwright in a foreword he has written to a pamphlet, "Trade Unionism for Clerks," and which is reproduced. in last months issue of the Clerk, After recalling that his clerking was over before he was 20, and that beginning at £18 year he never rose above £72 or 284 he forgets which--Mr. Shaw writes:
