SHANGHAI UNREST.
POOTUNG WORKERS MAKE DEMANDS.
Unrest among the workers of the B.A. T. factories in Pootung, the drawing up of demands by them to be presented to the man- agement, and the resumption of workers of Chinese piece, goods shop in the Settlement, French Concession and Chinese territory marked the day's developments in the labour situation in Greater Shanghai, saya the Shanghai Times of Sept. 29.
Between 3,000 and 4,000 piece goods shop employees ended their strike in compliance with orders of the Unification Committee of the Shanghai General Labour Unions, which is attempting to bring about a settlement of the controversy. The workers were on strike 24 hours.
Another strike was fully settled of striking hat-makers when local Chinese shops returned to work after their demands for an increase in wages had been grant- ed. The workers struck last Mon- day, demanding that they be given
