When the auction valve closes, this sup- ply of auxillary air is cut off and the engine once more receives a mixture too rich for full speed operation and it slows down.

Trouble With Distributor Rearing.

Question: I have had consider- lable trouble with the hurning out of the distributor-bearing on my six. Can you tell me what causes this?

Answer: The only reason wa can think of is that this bearing is not kapt properly lubricated. There is an oil-retainer on the di tributor, near the bottom of it, through which oil is fed to the bearing and the recommendation is to supply a few drops of oil at this point after each 250 miles of service. We have never heard of one of these bearings giving You might tiouble, if kept oiled. have the distributor head removed!

There is usually a plugged opening in the transmis- sion cover, through which it can he filled, but the rear-axle housing seldom has any filler hole and its oil supply has to be replenished, through the test hole above refer- red to, by means of an oll-gun.

Is there any parti cular brand of oil which you know to be coldproof? Is there any- thing which can be done to prevent oil from congcaling at tempera- tures from zero to twenty below?

Answer: We know of ne brand of oil which is absolutely proof against stiffening to some extent at the very low temperatures you, mention, but there are certain ones hich are much less affected than others, which we will name to voul in a separate memorandum. Ou feeling is that one takes serious chances of damaging the engine by lubrication failures, when it is kept in an unheated garage, in weather so severe as you refer to. The only remedy is to heat the; garage, although devices for local- ly heating the engine are of con-
