The main operation was against Fan Lo Kong village, where the. Yatshing pirates were known to have their headquarters.

The outstanding news to-day from the North is that the attempt of the Northerners to cross the Yangtzo between Nanking and Shanghai has failed and has resulted in their sustaining very heavy losses. Marshal Sun Chuan-fang admits that his losses total 30,000, and all reports agree that the South has thrown back the threat.
Earlier news was to the effect that the North was mussing troops and also bringing up heavy artillery. It seems certain that they have now been forced to leave Pukow, the occupation of which was so essential for their attack on Nanking.
Politically, it is important to note that Mr. C. C. Wu has arrived: at Shanghai from Nanking and has announced that Nanking is anxious and willing to join up with the Wu-han Government and that a full session of the Executive Council of the Kuomintang will be held in Nanking for the purpose of effecting formal amalgama- tion.
