It was not until the resumption of the hearing yesterday afternoon, that a Chinese detective said that the two words

"san kwoon" had a more significant meaning than that indicated in the previous literal interpretation. It meant, he said, new society" and was the name given to a Triad Society formed by Chiuchow coolies to take the place of the "old society," as established by local Cantonese before the strike.
