PLAYS AMAZING GOLF.

NEA

Mr. "Bobby" Jones, of the United States, is making a great bid at St. Andrew's to retain his title of the British Open Golf Champion, and, as will be seen elsewhere in this issue, he played really amazing golf yesterday, equalling the professional record for the course.

In the above picture, Bobby Jones is seen playing at Oakmont, America, a month ago, when he unsuccessfully defended his title" of Americam Open Champion.

PROMOTION OF LONDON'S KNOWLEDGE.

There are many valuable and Interesting collections In London of which the average Londoner knows little. The Wellcome His- torical Medical Museum in one of these. The object of its founder is to promote the knowledge of the evolution of medicino' and surgery, and kindred sciences. While this object is adhered to strictly, the contents of the museum- many of which are of historical and personal interest, and some highly artistic-cannot fail to appeal to the ordinary edu- ented Idividual.

The Wellcome Museum, which is situated in Wigmore Street. in the midst of the doctors' district, was founded in 1913 by Mr. Henry S. Wellcome. The museum has been reorganized recently, and was reopened by Sir Humphry Rol- leston, Regius Professor of Physic in the University of Cambridge, Sir Arthur Keith, and other well- known leaders in medicine a short i time ago.

"EVER VICTORIOUS FORCE."

PRAISE FOR NATIONALIST

ARMY.

The title of "Ever Victorious Force" has been conferred on the 1st Nationalist Army, because of its long succession of victories, in a speech delivered by Mr. Ma Wen- tsuo, head of the Political Burenu of the 1st Army at Tsinkiangpu.

In conferring the title, Mr. Ma pointed to the long list of achieve- ments of the Nationalist force and declared that wherever it went it was earnestly welcomed by the people. "Hearing of the arrival of our force," he said, "our enemies were frightened and fled. Consequently the 1st Army is now to be called the 'Ever. Victorious Force. It is n great honour both for the commander of this army and for he comrades. and soi- diers."

Praising the troops. Mr. Ma le quoted as saying that the enemy consider the force is as strong and sharp like the frost in winter, whereas in the second place, the approach of our force in the North is loudly welcomed by the people Las they regard us as the pleasant coming of springtime. These two views are opposite, but they are quite reasonable.

"As the duty of our Nationalist Army is to overthrow militarista and free people from the yoke of their oppression, we have to ter- rify our despotic and cruel enemy and to protect and help our people in any possible way.

"A proverb says: "The sun in winter is lovely, while in summer it is fearful." We can exactly ap ply this saying to the 1st Nation- alist Army. Of course -to the enemy we are like the sun in hot weather, while to the people we In are like a sun on cold days. conclusion it is better to say that the 1st Army is an army of sun force."

A few years ago .women or- ganized anti-tobacco leagues, in" England, and fought the use of the weed. Now, according to English physicians, the wenker sex is more Intemperate than men in the use of eigarettes. Some women, they say, boast of smoking, 60 cigarettes Ja day. Most of them use long holders, in which nicotine accumu lates and is swallowed in small quantities.
