WOMAN'S PATIENCE.

CONCUBINE'S STORY OF

HUMILIATION,

The hearing of the case in. which a Chinese is charged with the murder. of his wife in San Hot Village, near Castle Peak, was continued before Mr. R. E. Lind- | sell yesterday afternoon.

Mr. T. S. Whyte Smith prose- cuted and the prisoner was de- fended by Mr. J. A. Gordon Lensk.

A village, elder of the San Hol district who is also a druggist went into the box to say that the defendant, a few weeks prior to his wife's disappearance, had appear- ed with his child at the witness' shop and asked for nux vomica. He said he wanted it to cure the bolla on the child. The witness had refused to sell any nux vomica to the defendant as he did not feel he should do so, vomica being classed as a poison.

nux

The defendant'a concubine then went into the box. She said she was married to defendant six years ago. She had been to Castle Peak on one occasion in order to pay her respects to the defen- dant's wife by pouring her a cup of tea on a festival day.

The defendant's wife had called at her house in Shamsuipo 'on several occasions. On her last visit, some two years ago, the de redsed woman had smeared hor all over with oll. She had made a report to her husband about the matter but did not know what steps he took.

On April 9, defendant told her that his wife had disappeared and at the same time he asked her to go to Castle Penk to assist in bringing the children to Shamsui- po.

They went out the next day and took all the necessary belongings from Castle Peak to Shamsulpo.

8 The defendant had since that day made weekly visits to Castle Peak.

The case was adjourned."

EXCITING FINAL AT CHINESE Y.M.C.A.

In a brisk and exciting-valley-ball on the Chinese Y. M. C. A. gamo ground yesterday, the Tutorial In- stituto beat St Pauls in the final game of the "A" division of the local Volley-ball Association. This inter school competition, organised by the Chinese Y. M. C. A. provided much recreation, and the matches leading up to finals in the three divisions have been followed with interest.

both Teams from St. Paul's won the "B" and "C" divisions at on Earlier dato, while excitement was added to the encounter; between the finalists for the "A" division by zes. son of the fact that both had won all their matches.

There was a large crowd of Chinese pectators and excitement rose to a high pitch. Three games were played, the Tutorial Institute winning the Arst by 21-16, losing the second by 16-21 and gaining the decision in the third by 21-10.

Shield Presented. Afterwards, Mr. Ho Tak-ping pre- sided over a large gathering to wit- riess the handing out of shields and a eup to the winning teams. He in- troduced Dr. S. F. Lee, Hon. Presl- dent of the Volley-ball Association, who handed shields to the captain of the Tutorial Institute's team, "A" division champions, and to the captain of St. Paul's Junior team, "B" division champions. The captain of St. Paul'a team in the "C" division received a silver cup.

Afterwards the secretary of the Association, Mr. Leung Sul-sang, spoke on the game generally through- cut the season.

In the "A" division eight teams en- tored, "B" division nine teams, and in the "C" division which is composed of teams of boys of not more than 90 pounds in weight, four teams en- tered.

Mr. Ko Sik-wai, Hon, general seera- tary of the Association, was the re-

PASSENGERS.

Asked whether he personally would. feree. attempt to bring another team to Malaya Mr. Oldfield said that it was his ambition to do so. The date of the next tour was problematical sec- ing that the English Test team would. be in Australia next year, with the Australians visiting England in 1930, but they would certainly come. The name of Malaya would figure very largely in Australia when they got back and told of the wonderful Recep tion which they had received.
