This is a great hinderance to the shipment of cargoes to the cities along the Yangtze, and it also explains why the godowns in Shanghai are over-flowing with cargoes that were shipped from Hongkong to the Yangtze within the past few months and which the river boats were unable to de-- liver to their destination.
In the case of Hankow, it is fearned that trade up there is gen- erally depressed by the fact that the Hankow Government has or- dered the people to use the Cent tral Government Bank notes, the value of which is much lower than Shanghai money.
