CHINESE STRUGGLE.

Calcutta, Juno 22. The proposed Indian medical mission to China is the subject of an interesting correspondenco

between the Home member of the Government of India and T. G. Goswami, President of the All- India Volunteers.

plying to the requests for pass- porta, asks for an explanation of the statement that while the mis- sion will be medical and non-poli- tical, the "corps is also to he n cultural embassy to Nationalist China carrying a message of good- will from the Volunteers and must be carefully chosen." The Gov- ernment of India further asks to which Chinese army the mission is to be attached.

Sir-The control of traffic at the junction of Des Voeux Road and Pedder Street is, I believe, un experiment and, as such, should be thoroughly explored, admitting of no half-measures. To-lay, police-Cabinet and demanded Averscu's The Government of India, re- mon are posted at this junction immediate retirement. Prince to keep the pedestrians between Stirbey is a supporter to Britianu, the white lines. It is noticed, who opposed Prince Curol's return however, that while the police made a point of keeping the Chinese within bounds and, in one Inslanec, by the scruff of a Chin- ese neck, no invitation was ex- tended to the non-Chinese pedes- trians to toe the white lines. Jay- walkers, irrespective of nationa- lity, should be warned and should co-operate with the Authorities. | But the attitude that the police take in making this experiment savours too strongly of discrimina- tion, which Chinese bitterly resent nowadays. STREET TREES. Sir-There are some beautiful trees along Queen's Road East. Recently, a mysterious mark has been placed upon them, which the writer fears means that they are to be cut down. Isn't it a shame? Soon, I suppose we will have our beauty spots covered with bill hoardings, and all, the trees re- moved from the streets.

It seems useless to ask the department in question whether it is true that these trees are to be. cut down (let us hope not) for the all wise and powerful Government never reply to our feeble protests. "Intruder," the Aussie, "said a mouthful"

COMMON CAUSES OF INDIGESTION. AND THE TONIC METHOD OF CURE.

Many doctors are agreed that the habit of eating and drinking simultaneously is ล prolific cause of indigestion, the reason being that the gastric juice, un- duly diluted, fails to do its work efficiently. Undoubtedly, too, the injudicious use of alcohol with meals distresses the stomach and retards digestive processes. Much of the liver disorder, so common in the Far East, is due rather to cocktails and liqueurs than to the climate.

The secret to good digestion is to eat and drink only those things which you know from experience agree with you. And in your efforts to restore to healthy normaly a digestion which has ceased to function properly and is constantly causing you trouble and pain, do not resort to the use of strong purgative pills or enfeebling laxative waters, but get right to the root of the trouble by giving renewed strength to the stomach by means of tonic treatment--- the treatment which Dr. Williams Pink Pills are pre- cisely designed to provide.

Like all the other organs to the body, the stomach depends upon the blood for the replace- ment of the energy it is con- stantly using up. By rapidly enriching and strengthening the blood Dr. Williams' Pink Pilla supply fresh strength to enfee- bled organs of digestion, thus restoring to them the power of digesting easily and thoroughly the food caten, thus, banising gain and distress. Good results are speedily demonstrated by a marked improvement in the appetite, Ther lost flesh is re- gained, the eyes recover lustre, pains and Batulence cease, the spirits revive, a general sense of well-being, and forgetfulness. excepting when hungry-that one has such a thing as stomach, indicate that health is restored.
