A NEW DEPARTURE IN PROGRAMMES.
The many soldiers and sallora attending the Better 'Ole Y.M.C.A. Peking Road last night found that they were not only provided with an excellent concert but with a miniatura magazine to read before the concert started and during the interval."
The concort was arranged by Mr. J. H. Donnithorne who was also responsible for a novel form of programma. This consisted of a magazine in miniature containing first of all a mythical and very humorous account of China's war, an alleged interview with Mr. Woolworth, hints for housewives, football snaps and many
other items of a light nature,"
The concert was one of all round excellence. Several pleasing items were rendered by the Saxophone Ensemble under the leadership of Mr. D. Smith Hill, the members. being Mra, Donnithorne, Mrs. Shaw, and Messrs. B. Gray, C. H. Miles, J. H Shaw, F. C. Clemo, H. Middleton and H. R. Major. Others .contributing to the first part of the programme were Mr. T, G. Paterson, Mr. C. W. Murphy, Mr. V. C. Labrum, and Mrs. A. F. Reynolds. This part concluded with a sketch entitled "Where There's a Will," the characters boing well taken by Miss C. Munro, Mr. W. E. Price and Mr. G. G. Stopani Thomson.
Further selections were given by the Saxophone Ensemble dur- ing the latter part of the pro- gramme and vocal and musical items by Mr. J. Grenham, Miss Dorothy Henderson, Mr. J. David- son and Mr. S. Grey. The concert" was given under the auspices of the YMCA, Entertainment Com- immittee.
