The reason for the virtues of the Dennis, this action was that Segravo ro- plenished petrol supply at a spot other than the,, official replenish- ment pits.

The race, which began at 11 o'clock, and ended at 5, was won by George Duller, the well-known steeplechase jockey who covered 385.991 miles at an average speed of 64.3 mp. h., and so won the "Barnato" Cup for the driver with the maximum mileage.

Sand mounds were dotted about the course, and these correspond- ing to "S" bends, introduced braking and acceleration tests.

Car on Fire.

There was a thrilling incident carly in the race when the Vaux- hall car driven by E. L. Meason. burst into fames. Meeson escaped injury, but M. Byc-Rawson, his mechanic, was badly burned and was taken to Weybridge Cottage. | Iospital for attention.

After sixty-eight lups had been completed Segrave, and Duller had a great duel for the lead, and the former got in front and steadily forged ahead until he was nearly eight minutes ahead of Duller. Then Segrave committed the error of stopping for petrol at a spot not! permitted by the rules governing the 'race. The signal was given that he was disqualified, and he drove into the pits. Duller thus went into leading position, with H. S. C. Birkin (Bentley) second. The latter was two miles behind Duller with an hour remaining, but he could not hope to overhaul the former. Duller increased the gap during the last few laps. and finally, on the stroke of five, when the race came to an end, he finished more than 27 miles in front of Birkin. Only sixteen of the thirty starters finished, engine trouble causing many retirements.

British Cars for Over-

seas."

Signs are not wanting, says The Autocar, that at long Inst the British-made, vehicle is definitely advancing in popularity and taking its place in the Dominions overseas. One may, therefore, look forward tonfidently to an increasing total of exports in the future. A sound car, well Anished, and handled in a business-like way, was bound, sooner or later, to appeal to motorists ovargers, and now that the long-standing, handicap produced by the war has been practically wiped out, home manufacturers are able to devote their energetic attention to over- seas demands. Already a number of factory representatives are in British possessions paving the way for increased trade.

"The most popular chassis, because it caters for the most in- sistont demand of industry, is the 30 cwt. model, and it is typical of Dennis construction that' although pneumatic tyres are optional in wheel equipment and in most cases are used, this model is bulit to withstand caally the strains and stresses occasioned by service over all sorts of road sur faces with solid tyred wheels.
