JAPAN'S TRADE.
EXCESS OF IMPORTS OVER EXPORTS. Commercial cable received by the Japanese Consulató General, Hong-. kong, 26th May, 1927
Last month the excess of im ports over exports decreased elightly, due to the decline of im- ports, compared with that of the same period of last year.
The money market has shown un. casiness generally owing to the rejection of the Imperial ordinance bill for straightoning the Talwaa Bank's business, which was pro- posed by the late Cabinet, and the failures of the bank, as well as the Jugo Bank, etc., were an nounced. All banks in Japan wore obliged to close their 23rd, doors on 22nd and April, the Government declaring. three weeks' moratorium on and after 22nd April.
During the period of the mora- torium, business transactions w. ro suspended. The Yokoharin Specie Bank changed its exchange quota- tions several times and the mar kats showed much depression. The Bank of Japan made extra- ordinary advances, the local banks incroased the reserve funds and the officials and people In Japan dealt promptly with the financial dißealties. The financial market after the expiration of the mora- torium is quiet and normal.
Foreign trade of Japan during last month was: Value of Exports, 168 million yen; Value of Imports, 225 million yon; Excess of Im- ports, 67 million yen.
Trade of Japan with China dar- ing last month; Value of Exports, 32 million yen; Value of Imports, 21 million yen; Excess of Exporta. 11 million yan.
