What is described as the most severe battle of the whole Southern campaign has been fought on the Honan front, when the Fongtien forces, launching an offensive on a large scale, wiped out practically the whole of the Southern Eigth Army.
On the other hand, there is said to be dissension in the Northern ranks, following recent defents, and a mutiny is said to have occurred in Klangau, where the Southern armies are continuing to go forward. They are said to be rapidly approaching the Shantung border.
There have been remarkable messages from Hankow, indicating that matters are coming to a head there, through a split in the "Red" ranks. Borodin and other Russians are said to have fled and the "moderates" are understood to have come to an agreement with Marshal Chiang Kai-shek.

UPHELD.
SOVIET'S ESPIONAGE SYSTEM EXPOSED.
THE CAMPAIGN IN CHINA.
The House of Commons, by an overwhelming majority, yester- day endorsed the Government's decision to break off diplomatic re- lations with Russia.
A lengthy statement by Sir Austen Chamberlain detailed the espionage system which the Soviet had set up against Britain through- out the entire world and particularly in China.
The Home Secretary (Sir William Joynson Hicks) described the Soviet spy system in England as one of the most complete and ne- farious that he had ever met with." He stated that the missing War - Office document, for the discovery of which the Government primarily instituted the raid on Arcos House, had not been found, but a photo. graphic copy of it was among the documents seized.
In the course of his statement, Sir Austen Chamberlain said there was no reason why Anglo-Rusafan trade could not continue, the only difference now being that the special privileges had been withdrawn and that anti-British propaganda could no longer be carried on under the protection of diplomatic immunities.
