All through the ages have loved earrings. We may smile at the impulse to decorate the ear as savage, but the taste is as sophisticated as it fa barbaric. and it does result in beautiful effects. OUR STOCKINGS.
HOW TO CARE FOR THEM.
Nowadays good silk stockings are somewhat of an expensive lux- try, and it beseems us to take spe- cial care in the wearing of them, that they last to their full allotted span.
We all complain that our stock ings have a tendency to wear quickest at a particular spot. With some it is the back of the heel others seem to tread little holes in the soles, while laddering appears to attack the stocking legs of a good many.
If we know the weak places we can guard against trouble by tak- ing the "stitch in time." Where the holes come most readily it is
a wise plan to tack squares of net over the heels, toes or soles of a new pair of silk stockings, just wherever we expect the first thin ness to be manifest. The protec- tive net, takes the hard wear and saves the stockings themselves,

The cost of repairing ladders by "invisible menders" varies accord- ing to the size of the holes, but, in any case, it is not an expensive precess, and mending long ladders oneself is a heart-breaking and not too successful job.
Do be, careful how you put on and take off your stockings. Don't drag them over the heel and up the leg. Gather them right up to the toe in your hands and slip your foot in carefully, fitting them over the heels. Peel them off in- side out, gently.
