Tsui, the founder of the College, the headmaster, Mr. Lim Hoy-lan, Bishop Valtorta, Mr. Y. P. Lau Inspector of Vernacular Schools) and Mr. G. P. de Martin (Inspector of English School).

Headmaster Report.

The Headmaster read the annual roport, from which we take the following extracts:

The average number en roll during the year was 414. The total number of meetings was 380. The average daily attendance was 405, or about 97 per cent. This was the best in the short history of the College.

The increase in the percentage of attendance was duc (1) to stricter school regulations; (2) to the better health of the boys; and (3) to closer co-operation of the parents with the College authorities in preventing the boys from playing truant.

In previous years I remarked that most of the absences were due either to laziness or to ill-health. To re move the first cause, I made a new rule which authorised every teacher to strike off the roll the name of nur boy who was absent for three or moro days without

permission; he on his return to school could produce a bona fide letter from his parent or guardian stating the reason for his absence, I sincerely hope that parents and guardians will give

13 their whole-hearted -operation in our efforts to enforce regular attendance at school. When a boy has been absent for a few days, he will find it very difficult to follow the work of his class on his return: and if he has been absent for a fort night or more, he will find it almost impossible to do so, unless he is very bright. If the teacher attempts to bring the absentees up to the leval of the other boys, the work of the whole class will be returded. This in unfair to those boys who attend scltool regularly.

To combat ill-health, the second cause of absences, I made drill and gymnastics compulsory for all the classes, I am glad to say that this has resulted in the improved health

whole.

The Bill's Provisions,

strike having any objcet other The B stipulates that any than the furtherance of a trade dispute within the industry in which the strikers are engaged is Illegal if it is designed or ealcu- lated to coerce the Government or intimidate a substantial portion of the community. The Bill lays down the penalty of two years' imprisonment for instigators and participators. The Bill forbids intimidatory picketing and probi- bits the picketing of non-strikers' residences, providing a penalty of £20 or imprisonment for three months.

The Old Boys of our College form- ed a Union at the beginning of the year. Mr. Lung Tin Toiig is the president; Mr. Tam Yick Fong, the secretary; and Mr. Chung Hok Nang, the tronsuror; At present thero are

than 120 members, I appeal to all the boys who are leaving school to join the Union and to continue to take an interest in the work of their Alma Mater.
