PO PIU LOTTERY,
"ANOTHER POLICE RAID. Yesterday afternoon, ten Chinese appeared before Major C. Willson charged with keeping a gambling house, possession of Po Plu tickets, and with printing same.
Detective Sergeant Baker prose.. cuted, and Mr. F. H. Loseby repre- sented all ten defendants.
In the witness-box Sergeant. Baker said that, together with. two Chinese detectives he 'raided No. 143 Wing Lok Street, third floor, and there seized a quantity of papers relating to Po Piu tickets. In a box in the house he discovered" two baskets, one of which contain- ed five notes of $10 each and about 315 in coppers, and the other about. $26 in ten-ceat pieces. There were also twenty or so Canton ten-cent pieces.
Documents Produced. Witness produced many docu- ments before his Worship, which he stated connected the ten defon- dants with the running of a Po Plu lottery ticket business.
Of the defendants, four were actually caught writing out charac tens chosen by clients. One or two others were engaged in another part of the house making records, kush ns would be required by any perdon running Po Piu lotteries.
Two Chinese detectives gave corroborative particulars of the Irald.
An expert on Po Piu lotteries, called by the prosecution, after looking through all the papers de- clared that he could only find three things which related to Fo Plu lotteries, Asked by Mr. Losely if there were actually any Po Plu lottery tickets amongst the papers. bofore him, he made the statements that he could, zot see anything that could be called a Po Plu.
At this stage his Worship ad- Journed the case antil Tuesday afternoon,
