To the Committee the year has been trying in that out of the original twelve members elected to serve, six resigned during the course of the year. Such changes do not assist in the well running of the Institute and 1 trust that the members you have elected for the incoming Committee will serve throughout the year, and emulate our President's record of not hav ing missed ons meeting during the past year. Further burdens in- cluded the taking over of the old Phoenix Club premises and the laying out of the combined areas. Our thanks are due to Mr. E. W. The election of the President followed. Mr. J. Ormiston in proposing the name of Mr. W. J. Hill said:
Mr. Hill in a few well chosen words, thanked the meeting for placing such confidence in him and he assured every one present that he would always try to be worthy of his post.
The election of other officers' and the general Committed then followed. In proposing the name of Mr. A. J. 7. Martin as the Hon- orary Treasurer for the ensuing year, the Chairman remarked that the accounts have been particu larly well kept and an appreciation has been recorded in the minutes He mentioned as

Accounts.
Turning to the accounts you will note that the nett loss is $1,195.64 which is considerably less than the $2,000 as estimated by sur Aud tors and the Committee before em barking on the extension of pre mises.
Our exponses were $9,472.77 more than 1925, of which increased rent cost $5,226.33, non recurrent charges in regards to the exten- sion, $2,161,57, charges $1,547.48, depreciation $662.35, bad debts $230.05.
Depreciation and writing off of bad and doubtful debts have been debited rather on the severe side.
Turning to the Income side, subscriptions and entrance fees show an increase of $1,786 duc to the subscription of shore mem- bera being raised from $3.00 to $5.00 per month. That this move was necessary is proved by the figures now before you..

Mr. J. McQueen addressed the meeting after the election and sug- gested closer relationship with the Hongkong University. He sai: "At the Annual Dinner, His Excel- keney the Governor mentioned that we should have closer co-oper tion with the University. It seems to me that an institution that has so much to do with engineering should have something to do with the Faculty of Engineering at the local university. I wonder if it would not be useful for this insti- tution to put up a prize similar to that of other Institutions at I trust that our friend will have fome for competition at the Uni the backing of a strong Committes versity of Hongkong. The chairman remarked that the matter would be attended to by the in-coming committee.
Mr. A. H. Gillingham proposed a vote of thanks to Mr. Ormiston and mentioned that it was through' Mr. Ormiston's energy that they have had four technical papers road during the last season. That was of practical importance to an institution like theirs and it should be kept up. (Applause)
