An old Chinese woman, atated in court that she lived in the mat- shed in question together with her son and daughter-in-law. At the time of the robbery her married daughter was also staying with her,
About two o'clock in the morn- Ing she heard a loud tapping at the door and sprang out of bed to find out who it was. On her way to the door she saw the silhouette of a man coming through a space intended for a window. It was dark Inside and she could not make out the man's features but she distinctly saw him move to wards the door, unbolt it and admit 'three others.

One of the men then seized her und forced her into her own cubicle and thero they 20 moved

The laughter, who shared the room with the mother, was similarly treated by the robbers who remov- ed from her three bangles and a pair of gold and jade cur-rings. The daughter, in the witness box, corroborated the old woman'a story and identified one of the two defendants in court as the man who removed her bangles.
The daughter-in-law of the old woman said that two men entered her room and one of them hold a chopper over her husband-and forced him to keep quite. They then forcibly took from her a pair. of bangles.
The son's story fitted in every detail with the story given by tha previous witnesses with this ad- dition, that as soon as the robbers left the house, they threw down the chopper they were carrying and ran towards Happy Valley while the remaining two chose their way of escape among the hills. The man followed the two who were running up the hill and his mother and sister helped to ruise the hug and cry, calling other villagers to join the chase. They eventually caught the two men now in custody.
The case was remanded until Friday next at 2.30 p.m.

SIX YEARS' DELAY. Why Sir Oswald Stoll's scheme for building a £600,000 theatre and restaurant in West-street, Brigh- ton, has been held up for six years was explained to the Brigh- ton licensing justices recently when the provisional licence was renewed for another year,
Applying personally, Sir Oswald' said he bought the site in 1921 number of for £100,000, but a people lived in slums there, and he had been unable to get them out. He was waiting, too, for building costs to come down.
