THE HONGKONG TELEGRAPH,

LOOSE. PISTON TROUBLE.

An Elusive and Costly Problem.

BY ISRAEL KLEIN.

One of the most elusive and costly knocks in the engine is that caused by loose pistons.

It is what is called a piston slap, but is heard almost as a knock, especially while the engine is still cold. As the engine warms up, the knock disappes re.

However, oven after its disap pearance, its effects are felt in Lower power and loss mileage from the fuel."

What happens is this:

A loose piston generally means too much clearance between cylinder wall and piston. Tho re; the fuel that sult is that part should burn up completely in the chamber above the piston hoad, Keops down through the space and into the crankcase.
