THE HONGKONG TELEGRAPH,

THE WORLD SPORT

CRICKET NOTES.

[By Two Legs."]

The local cricket season is fast drawing to a close and it looks as if early April will see the curtain rung down. There are one or two postponed matchos to be played off, otherwise the programme will end with the Winners v Rest match,

in both divisions, on March 26th.

*

*

With the withdrawal of the Royal Engines & Signals from the Senior League, the number of teams competing in this section has been brought down to the level of those in the Junior Division (10) Clubs each). The rule governing the withdrawal of a Club competing in the Longue is very explicit, and in the case of the R.E. & S. who have scratched more

than one fourth of their matches, it can probably be taken for granted that the three games that they have played would be considered null and

void.

The race, which took place on the Isis at Oxford, was on novel lines, the crews starting at different times. The course was half a mile long and the crews were judged on style while rowing down the river and on speed, while rowing back. The two umpires awarded equal points for style and the race went for speed, Oxford's time was 3 min. 36.2/5 secs. and Cambridge's B min. 51 aces.

The possibility of becoming the wooden-spoonists has probably awakened the Hongkong C.. 2nd.
