Defence of Shanghai.
New York, Feb. 7. The text of the United States Government's proposals to elimi- nate the International Settlement at Shanghai from the zone of war- like activities has been issued.
It points out the importance of the area to the Chinese, the huge investments there and the neces- sity for maintaining order in a Settlement through which passes forty per cent. of the trade of Chinn.

A new feature of the Show was a cup presented by Mr. J. A. Plum- mer called the "Amateur" Cup for the best exhibit of pot plants in any of the Open or Peak classes by members who had not exhibited before or had never won a prize at any Flower Show in Hongkong. This was won by Mr...L, S. Green- hill with 3 pots of Phlox Dram- mondi from his garden Peak.

Since their last report the Com-; mittee have to record with thei deepest regret the deaths of the Hon. Mr. P. 'Holyoak, Sir Paul Chater and Mr. Ho Fook.
