The following is a translation of a joint-statement made by the Piece Goods Guild and the Sun- dries Goods Gulids in protest against the increase of compra- dore commission from 2% to 1%, as appearing in the vernacular newspaper, the Wah Taze Yat Po, on the 4th. inst.
(1) With regard to the report which appeared in a certain ver- nacular newspaper, and the dis- cussion taken place during the meetings of the Compradore: Aa sociation on 30th. December läst. as reported in the Wah Tate Yat Po, there seems to be some misap prehension.
(2) In consequence of the Strike and Boycott last year, many bankruptcies were caused among our guilds, while surviving mem- bers are still in agony.
