This charge was made by Mr. St. John Ervine, the dramatic eritic in a speech which he dell vered at the Fritish Drama League Conference at Caxton Hall, West- minster.
The delegates were discussing playwrights' fees, and Mr. S. II. Crouthor, of the Huddersfield Thespians, had put forward motion expressing the view that the time had arrived for the aboli- tion of the flat rate fee for amateur play-producing societies, which do not contribute to charity, and that the League should make a re- newed effort to establish payment on the basis of gross receipts.

The snake, which is one of the Night Tree Snakes from the Malay States, seems to have been involv ed in a domestic argument, for ho was found with a bad bite half- way down his 8ft. length, and the female snake was held to be guilty.
