OPINIONS ON CHINA CRISIS. HANKOW. FERMENT
RAMSAY MACDONALD ADVOCATES
CANTON RECOGNITION.
KUOMINTANG AT GENEVA.
Many conflicting opinions regarding the best procedure to be followed in dealing with the crisis in China are revealed in the telegrama to hand to-day.
The British Guernment does not think that any useful purpose would be served at present in bringing the matter before the League of Nations, and is awaiting the report of the new Minfater, Mr. Miles Lampson, who is going to consult various Chinese leaders at Hankow and elsewhere. '
The actual situation at Hankow has materially improved and it is hoped to withdraw the naval guards, which were landed.
Mr. Ramsay MacDonald thinks that Britain ought to recognise Canton, whilst M. Chlcherin, interviewed in Berlin, says, on behalf of Russia, that the South China of to-day is going to be the Chinese Republic of to-morrow.
A Kuomintang delegate has arrived at Goneva and has declared that only Canton can speak for the Chinese people, that Peking is counted as being non-existent and that all "unequal treaties" must Immediately be abolished."

Police Court proceedings against the twenty suspects held in connection with the Sunning piracy were continued this morning. when a "graphic story was told by the Chief Officer (Mr." T. P. Beatty) of how the pirates secured control of the ill-fated vessel.
Mr. Beatty also spoke of the valuable services rendored by Mr. Lapsley as interpreter, which resulted in the ship's officers being given a greater measure of freedom, enabling them to confer on the situation. He also told of a threat by a pirate to rob the only lady passenger of her rings, which was, provented by the inter- vention of another pirate.
Referring to the regaining of control of the ship, Mr. Beatty described how two of the pirates were laid out with the sounding lead. and how he himself shot one of the outlaws.
