With the exception of the Lon- don horougha, which do not poli until 1928, municipal elections are being held to-day throughout Eng- land and Wales.
A feature of the election' cam- paigns, in which little public in- terest has been aroused, is the strong bid that, is being made. particularly in the north of Eng- land, by Labour candidates, whose platform includes extension of municipal trading and employment of direct labour in municipal works. Labour candidates number 788. Conservatives 556, "Liberals 299, and Independents 249.
The newspapers, note that in certain parts of Lancashire and Yorkshire there is a tendency for Liberals to co-operate with Con- servatives, and the gradual disap- pearance of the Liberal Party from municipal affairs, is particularly marked in the north of England. British Wireless.

Detroit, Nov. 1. James Cunliffe, "wanted" by the New Jersey authorities in con- nection with the murder of the drer of a mati van, which was robbed of $150,000 at Elizabeth on October 17, was shot dead in a fiat here
Policemen summoned to the fat were red on by a man named Olsen, who killed one of them, and was himself shot dead by another dfazer.

The bodies of Cunliffe and a woman were found in bed. It is believed Olsen killed them both asa sequel to a quarrel over the division of the spoils of a recent bank robbery here, in which it is suggested Olsen "participated.
