200 M.P.H. HOPED FOR
One of the most interesting announcements recently is that the Sunbeam Motor Car Co., Ltd., intends building a new racing car of 1,000 h.p. or more, and that this giant speed machine will have a potential speed of 200. m.p.h. The car is now in course of construction at the company's works at Wolverhampton, and it will be Britisb-built throughout.
Already this year the Sunbeam Company has demonstrated what can be accomplished by a super efficient engine. of modost dimensions. The 4-litre 12-cylin- der Sunbeam, the most romark- jable car ever built, and drivon by Major H. O. D. Segrave, set up now figures for the lying kilometro on Southport Sands last March, covering the distance at a mean speed of 152.336 m,p.h.. The now Sunbeam car will be immensely larger and capable of speeds limited only by the suitability of the course on which it will be tried out.
Two engines, each approxim ately of 500 h.p., will bo installed in the new car one at the front end and the other at the roar. This will give an equal distribut- ion of weight and stability, very necessary on a car designed for such colossal speed. The body will be brought down vory. low to the ground, the appearance of the car being entirely different from any other racing car hitherto produced.
Although the designing and building of such a speod machine enthily an enormotts modfit-of work, with the unique experianto: and facilities of the Sunbeam Company it is hoped to have it rendy for its preliminary trials towards the end of the year. Major Begrave, who has achieved such a remarkable record of success on Sunbeams, will pilot the new car,
