ADULTERATED MUSTARD.
INTERESTING DECISION IN DRUGGIST CASE.
A vory interesting docision was. given by Mr. J. H. B. Nihill at the Kowloon Magistracy yesterday in a case. In which a druggist was charged with selling mustard which was adulterated with 80 per cent.. starchy matter. The defendant was found not guilty on a point. of law and discharged..
In a previous case, the master of a shop at 359 Shanghai Street was charged with selling a "bottle of mustard to Sanitary Inspector Elliot, which purported to be genuine mustard but which in fact contained 25 per cent, starchy mätter.
The defendant admitted having sold the battle to Inspector Elliot bat pleaded that he was unaware it was adulteratod, having himself purchased his stock from else- where.
Imposing a fine of $25, his Wor- ship accepted the defendant's ex- planation but said that in the in- terests of the public he could not dimiss the case without the position of a fine.
