DISASTROUS FIRE AND EXPLOSION. Three terrific explosions followed an out- broak of fire recently in a godown belonging to the Dollar Steamship Company situated at their wharves up the Whangpoo. The fire broke out in a godown divided into three sections and the explosions which followed in each of these caused terrible havoc in every part of the oxtensive compound. Three godowns were totally wrecked, the manager's house, was practically destroyed and another large storehouse to the roar was guttod. The above- photograph shows the section of the godown in which the first explosion occurred and at the left rear can be seen the gutted storehouse.
