A rather startling, and yet some- what attractive, divergence from usuni practice, was to have been considered at the annual meeting of the Shanghai Football Associa--
Slon held at the Cathedral School,
Shanghai, last night, and local soccer enthusiasts will be interest- ed to know whether it was adopted. This radical change was con- tained in a resolution mover un- known, which stated: "For the purpose of selecting teams for Interport matches a Committee shall be formed by each First Division team nominating one re- presentative; such representative to be a non-player.
This Committee shall not be considered as a Standing Com- mittee and Shanghai Football As- .sociation officials, shall not func- tion upon it unless as the duly appointed representative of a First Division Club,"
As a system it appears to have much to commend it, but since no selection,committee m existence is likely to give general satisfaction, I wonder, whether an increase in numbers is likely to tend to this end,
Also before the. Shanghai meet- ing is a much more simple re- solution. It proposes:

A FIVE SET STRUGGLE.
Forest Hills, Sept. 16. Playing in the National Lawn Tennis Championship, Tilden lost the championship which he has held for six years. Cochet beat Tilden by 6/8, 6/1, 6/8, 1/6, 8/6. Rcutor.

The Australians défested Mr. G. Palmer'a XI by six wickets and 10 runs at Carlisle to-day in a.one- day match. There were geven thousand spectators present in fine weather and the wicket was good,
Mr. Palmer's XI batted first, and declared after scoring 197 for the loss of five wickets. Percy Holmes, the Yorkshire. player, was 94 not out, while Richardson took four wickets for 67 runs.

Cartlidge Takes Umbrage. I have received the following. letter written by, or on behalf of, "Jim" Cartlidge, in regard to a brief reference to him in a recent article on the New Boxing Season. It reads:
