The contest has been bittter and as a result at least ten slander actions are pend- ing among the political lead- ers, including an action by Mr Mackenzie King against a Toronto paper for £50,000 damages. Two actions by Mr. Stevens, -Minister of Customs, have been filed against two newspapers for £20,300 each,
