NEW TYPE OF RIM.
The Royal Automobile Club's first international Grand Prix Race will start on the track at Weybridge on Saturday, August 7, at 2 pm. It was postponed from a Bank Holiday fixture to accom modate to-day's Grand Prix of Europe Rice, that no manufac- turer might abstain from either on account of the events being too. close together for the cars to be turned up to fulfil the quite dif- ferent climatic and other condi tions. The only front-rank in- ternational firms represented in the present list of thirteen antries are teams of three 1926 Talbots and as many Delage cars. Mr. Richard Maudslay, the brilliant,engineer, whose work in poineering the car that is light but commodious as distinct from a reproduction in little of a full- size car, has been unanimously elected Fresident of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders in succession to Sir Wil- liam Latte, K.B.E., whose term of office has expired. Mr. Mauds. lay, is the mainspring of the Standard Motor Company, of Coventry.

It is an open secret that the most marked general tendency to bo revealed at the yearly motor car show at Olympia in October will be the introduction of six- cylinder engined chassis. In this connection Humber will presint- ly introduce a 3,075 c.a. overhead inlet and side-by-sido exhaust value six-cylinder engined 20.9 h.p. chassis with four wheel brakes, à four speed gearbox, and 4 feet 9 inches track.

A 45 h.p. Renault car has re- captured the twenty-four hour rocord by travelling at a mean speed of 108.3 m.p.h. at Mont)- hery track on the 10th instant, when it also captured the follow- ing records.

It's called the "drop-centre rim," from the fact that it is de- pressed in the contre all around its circumference, in order to ac
commodate the loose casings and tubes when they are mounted. Into this depression the beads of the tyres are placed, air is pump- ed into the tubes, the beads jump back into their proper place along; the sides and that's all.
"No need of the hammer and tyre irons. In fact, if force is used mounting a tyre on a rim of this kind, the soft bead-toe of the tyre may be injured.
It is the softness of the balloon tyre, as against the harder high pressure tyre, says Lemon, that makes the drop centre rim pos- sible for quick, and 'ensy tyre changing. It can be pressed easily into the well of the rim and pushed back into place, and the same process inverted can be used to remove them.
