PROTESTS FROM SEVERAL LEGATIONS.
Peking, Aug. 31. Following the American Note sent on Aug. 25, protests have now heen lodged by several other Lega- tions against the proposed Feking loan.
The British forwarded yester day. to the Foreign Office:two sČ- parate memoranda. One protests. very strongly against the issue of any new loan on the security of the Customs, while many Chinese Government liabilities to British subjects remain.uhdischarged, and'. requests an immediate assurance that the issue of such a loan will not be proceeded, with. The other refers specifically, to the Tientsin-Pukow default, and reminds the Foreign: Offico of the previous communica tions on the subject and formally demanda that, if and whon the Customs revenue becomes avail able to meot foreign domestic charges now being served thereby," the just claims of the Tientsin Pukow bondholders shall be met from such revenue before any new capital charges are placed thereon.
The British Legation, in as80- ciation with the French and American Logations, is lodging a similar demand with regard to the Hukuang Railway Loan. The Japanese have also protested Reuter
