THE WORLD SPORT

THE CHANNEL SWIM,

ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL LADY COMPETITOR.

Dover, Aug. 28. The American lady, Mrs. Clem- ington Corson, swam the Channel yesterday. She started from Gris Nez at 11.30 yesterday evening and landed at 8.10 the following after noon, taking 15 hours and 40 minutes.

Mrs. Gorgon, who is 27 years old and the mother of two chil- dren, scored her Channel victory on her second attempt, the first of which was in 1923, when, in bad conditions, she reached one and a quarter miles from the English coast and gave up. This time the aea was smooth and she was ne- alated by the tide. She chatted cheerfully with her husband, the pilot and her trainer, who were aboard a tug from where she was fed with lonf sugar, chocolates and cocoa. She trained through -out largely on sweets,

Frank Perks, a Birmingham chemist, made a simultaneous at- tempt but gave up a mile from England-Reuter,
