Hearing of the case in which To. Szestuen clalined $210 from Mons. Albert Guetat, of the Cafe Albert, being balance dus. of rent for 6 Kennedy Road, and in which de- fondant counter-claimed for a like amount, was continued in the Summary Court yesterday after noon.

Shanghai, Aug. 27. A Hankow message of Aug. 23, delayed by the censor, states:
Following the collapse of a Wu Pel-fu brigade in the Pingkiang sector, the Southerners pushed home their attack and broke that Allied lino, rondering the contre untenable. Hence the Allies-with- Mr. W. B. Hind appeared for the drew, and the "Reds" are advanc plaintiff and Mr. L. D. Turner foring all along the lino. the defendant. At the previous hearing the dofence submitted that there was no case to answer and His Honour the Puiano Judge said he thought this implied a with drawal of the counter-claim. Yesterday defendant went into the witness box.. Held the clause in the agreement relative to gas fittinga was put in before he took possession of the house. When he took possession electric and water fittings were there but no gas fittings. He asked the Gas Company to put in two gas stoves and five geysers, one to each bath- room In addition they had to lay pipes from the mains into the house. He told the landlord's agent that he wanted the house as a boarding establishment.
Shroff Angry.
When the shroff called for the rent on June 21 he gave him a cheque for $590 and a receipt for the putting in of the gus filings, $210, this making up the total of $800 for two months. The shroff got angry and said he must have the money and that the expense of the gas fittings could be discussed later. Witness thereupon got $210 from his wife and paid it to the shroff. He got two receipts for $100 each. Later 011 he got a letter from Messrs. Lee and Russ demanding $210 balance of rent. He wrote and asked for particu lars, stating that he had paid, but. no reply to this had been received, He instructed his solicitors to counter-claim for the amount.

A POSSIBLE SOLUTION.
Paris, Aug. 27. According to Le Journal, as a re- sult af rocent conversations between Sir Cecil Hurst, M. Fromageot, and Doctor Gaus, the legal experts of the British, French.and German Foreign Offices, a possible solution of the question of the League Council has been proposed, where- by elections" to non-permanent seats will be final.
The Assembly is not to be en- titled to revoke them until the three year term has expired.
It is also suggested that non- permaent members be givenä guarantee of re-election, thus prác- tically extending the mandate to six-years-Reuter.
