FOR THIRD OF MILLION DOLLARS.
:
New York, Aug. 16-Attorneys for Jack Kearns, former manager of Jack Dempsey, announced to-day that they had filed suit for a third of $1,000,000 against Dempsey, based on a contract between Kearns and Tex Rickard for bouts with Harry Wills and Gene Tunney.
The state license committee 'Lo- day denied Dempsey's application for a licence to fight Tunney until he has completed the athletic com- mission's order that he meets Wills first. This position was. takén de- spite the ruling of Attorney Gen- eral Ottinger that the license body was without power to refuse a li- cense after the champion was de- clared cligible by the athletic com- mission.
Kearns asserts that he contract- ed with Rickard for Dempsey, to fight Wills before July on or before October first. Dempsey was to re- ceive $600,000, for each fight and Dempsey was to pay Kearns one third of the million, whether the contract was fulfilled not, Kearns contends.

PROBLEM.
NEW BILL HELD OVER.
<
Simla, Aug. 23. in a crowded meeting of the Legislative Assembly, Sir B. P. Blackett moved consideration of the Indian Currency Bill
He
described the Report as the most, important contribution to India's currency problem since the Her- achell Report of 1893 and said he WAS convinced that the Hilton Young Commission would lend them in some five years to a real standard, with gold as the standard value and basis of earrency. He declared that the Bill was purely transiti- tional and he besought friendly col- laboration. He repudiated the sug- gestion that a 16d, rupee was the Indian view and an 18d. rupee the non-Indian view.
Sir B. P. Blackett said the Bil June 11th, 1926. proposed to impose on the currency Dear Sir On behalf of the authority a statutory obligation Navy League Sea Cadet Corps for the maintaince of the rupee acknowledge with best thanks within its moorings, and the Camp Grisnez, August 17-A your letter of the 5th May enclos Government of India agreed to the violent storm struck the Englishing this most kind and generous Commission's '. recommendation.
