In Middlesex's first innings: Hawetson took five wickets for 48: runs, whilst their second innings was noteworthy for the Ane score of 194 made by Mann.

KENT'S EASY WIN.

* To prevent espionage in Canton and to stop rival Labour Untons from fighting one another, fre quent searches are being made on Individuals as well as homes and; public places. On the nights of August 14th and 16th scores of homes and business firms were searched and in certain cases per sons were warned to depart from Canton immediately.

While street fightings were re ported at four, different places in Canton on August 16th in connec tion with labour disputes, no deaths "occurred, and orders for these fights were not given by either the Central Labour Union or the Kuomintang Workers' De Jegate Conference. Altogether about ten shops were attacked but only a fow fokis were injured.-/

The Tea-house Workers' Union in Canton is no longer resorting to force to oust the "Red" elements. from the labour movement. Its latest move has been the issuing: of a statement denouncing the ex- tremiste in Canton and refuting. the "Red" charge that the Union is revolting against the Kubmin- tang and" attempting to inter- fere with the progress of the Northern Expedition.
