This book, a copy of which fa sont us by Mesara. Kelly and Walsh, Shanghal, is the work of a man who has done twenty yours, mis sionary labour in Tibet and China, and whose writings, under the pan- name of "Jonathan Blunt,” are quite well-known in the East. Mr. Contea is a thorough-going. Protest- ant fundamentalist, and his book is a protest against modernistic theology in general and its applica tion to the Far East In particular. It is writton in scholarly fashion, showing the author to be a man of many parts, whilst his language, though at times rather florid, is cer- tainly direct and to the point.
Part 1, of the book, described as theoretical," is a defence of the fundamental viewpoint in such matters as the creation of the world and the origin of man, together with a carefully reasoned argu- ment of the Deluge as a historic fact. In this latter connecion, he quotes from the Shi Ki (Historical Records) of Sz Mu-chien, a Chinese writer of the 2nd Century, and are gues that the Na Wa mentioned therein is identical with Noah, the diluvian patriarch. He finds sup- port for his theory, incidentally; in an article by Dr. (sic) Te Tson-tai, of Hongkong, on "The Truth About the Mongolian Fossils." The author's contentions in this part of the book will not meet, with ready acceptance by the modernists, but they are at any rate worthy of close note.
In Part 2 of the book, the author deals with the "Red" sympathies of modernistic Christianity in the East. His observations have parti- cular reference to the teachings in certain types of missionary colleges.
