Mr. Baldwin, who is the sixth Harrovian to becomu Prime Minister of England, was present at the opening of the Harrow School War Memorial Buildings.

The memorial is a stone cloister with a high vaulted roof. On sione tablete are the names of Harrovians who fell in the war. This leads to the memorial build- ings, which consist of a large and beautiful ceremonial hall on the ground floor, with rooms above. A total of 250,000 was subscribed to the war memorial fund.

The archbishop,who dedicated the cloisters, mentioned that at one time a headmaster of Harrow had four boys under him, dach of whom became a Prime Minister of England.

Mr. Baldwin said:

In 1914 every boy, though he seldom said it, knew that he had to pass through the Valley of the Shadow of Death, and he knew that he might never emerge from it. That, knowledge left marks

Death is easy, and life is very hard, and it is not going to be an easy life for those who are now entering upon or at the point of entering manhood;

Just as at the time of the Ronnisapnce the age devoted itself to intellectual Inquiry, so it is devoting itself to social inquiry, and all of you will have to justify yongselves of the advantages you.. have received.

There is no toil like that of try- ing to mend things, of trying to make the world better and happier. Time after time you will find your' work destroyed, your best efforts misunderstood and you will be derided. Yet in spite of all that there is nothing for it but to go on in faith if you mean to accom- plish anything.
