AIR RACE.

SMALLEST MACHINE WINS.

London, July 10. Captain Eroad, flying a 80 hp. de Havilland Moth won the two day air race for the King's Cup, The race started yesterday with. 14 competitors, all British- machines. The. handicap condi tions ranged from an allowance of nearly five hours 'down to scratch. The competitors made four cir cuits of two triangular courses, the total distance being.1464 miles, starting and finishing at Hendon. The engines used ranged from 450-1 to 30 hp. Owing to various causes only seven machines remained in at the start this morning and two fell out in the course of the day, Flight Lieutenant Scholefield in a 150 h.p. Vixen Napier was second. He landed within a few seconds of Broad-Reuter.

Berlin, May 20-Berthold Freud, an engineer, has succeed- ed in constructing a machine for wireless transmission of motion pictures. Experiments made by other scientists heretofore have have been unsuccessful because sufficiently, rapid transmission of pictures would not be attained without 21 apparatus com plicated as to be useless for practical purposes. Freud' has evidently attained the necessary speed with a compard- tively simple machine. It fa rem ported the pictures are transmitted. with great accuracy of detall.
