FAREWELL DINNER TO MR. B. BALMFORD-Mr. E. Balmford, representative of the National Gas Engine Co., Ltd, and clients of the British Eléctrical and Engineering Co. of China, Ltd., were the guests at a dinner given by the Jardine Engineering Corporation. Ltd., at the Hotel Plaza, Shanghai. The function was the outcome of the taking over by the Jardine Engineering Corporation of the representation in the China of the National Gas Engine Co., Ltd., W. T. Henley's Talograph Works Co., Ltd., and Mirolees, Bickerton and Day, from the British Electrical and Engineering Co. of China, Ltd. Mr. G. 8. Aveyard, manager of the Jardine Engineering Corporation, presided.

SHANGHAI POLICE RESERVES-On assembling in the garden of Mr. A. L. Anderson's residence recently members of the S.M.P. Reservos were inspected by Mr. Anderson, Capt. Barrett and Mr. S.. Fessenden. After speaches by Mr. Fessenden, in which he made.special reference to good work done by the unit on May 30 last, by Capt. Barrett and others, refreshments were served, following which the Specials marched back to Building Well Police Station, where they were dismissed.
