MOTOR SMASH SEQUEL.
INJURED PASSENGERS IN COURT.
A recent serious motor smash, in which four Chinese pussongers, were seriously injured when their car ran into a wall at North Point.. near the Electric Company, pre- mises, had a sequel at the Central Police Court this morning, in the charging of the driver with negli- gent driving and with using the car, which was privately owned, for publie hire.
The crae, was heard before Major. C. Willson, and the wit-' nesses included the injured pas sengers, who appeared with their hends still wrapped in bandages.
Inspector Alexander said the. accident occurred on the 14th instant, as the car was proceed- ing towards Shaukiwan with full load of passengers, which the defendant had picked up outside the Sincere Company, for a, fare of $2.
Notwithstanding that Whitfield' was a controlled area and ears had to proceed along at a very moderate speed, the car was being rushed through the district at an idmitted speed of 20 miles, an hour, and ft went without saying that this speed was very much exceeded when it attempted to overtake and pass a heavy lorry." The driver of the lorry extended - his hand to the right as an indica- tion of his change, of direction, nt the crucial moment, and, in deavouring to avoid a collision which appeared fo's inevitable, the defendant swerved his car and run head on into a Wall. The car was completely stashed and only one an iwo of its seven pas sengers escaped, with ย severe shock,
