GETS PLACE OF HONOUR.

Down Chelsen way artists- even those who are among this season's bumper crop cf Royal, Academy rejects are hugging themselves with laughter over the comedy of "Eve."

"Eve" was painted by Mr. David Jagger, brother of Mr. C. S. Jagger, the sculptor of the Artil- lery War Memorial at Hyde Park. Corner. He painted it inst year and sent it to Burlington House with high hopes. It was refused. Let Mrs. David Jagger tell the story. "When the Academy re- jected Eve' last year," she told a Daily Chronicle representative last night, my husband vowed that he would never again send in.

1.

"Unknown to him, I sent it in this year, and we have been notified that it is "hung on the fine." It is really very funny.

"Eve, is a three-quarter length picture of myself wearing a pink, shawl and looking at

a bronze nude figure of Eve holding an apple.

"After it was chucked out last year we sent it to Liverpool, where it was nearly bought for a pro- minent collection; I believe it missed being bought by one vote. "So it came back again, and now it is on the line! How does my husband feel about it? Well, he had never been thrown out before, and he didn't like it.

"He had no idea that I had sent [in 'Eve,' and was astounded to receive the official notice of accep- tance."

Mrs. Jagger, asked about the future of "Eve," laughed and said, "I hope we'll sell it. I am sick Lof it."
