DOCTOR ROBBED.
CHINESE STEALS FROM HIS
BENEFACTOR.
Despite efforts made by. Doctor F. Kew, of 47, Wong Nel Chong Rond, to make him into an honest boya Chinese did not take ad- vantage of the kindness shown him with the result that he was brought up before Mr. R. E. Lind- sell at the Central Magistracy this morning, following a number of valuable articles being missed from the house. He was charged with the theft of one gold-plated Alarm clock, one gold wrist watch, one olll chain, ona „guid tongue scraper, and a felt hat, the total value of the articles being $315.
Dr. Kew said the boy was em ployed by him, but he had been in trouble before. Witness had em- ployed him and treated him very kindly, given him clothes, money, and rides in his car. He did a lot for the defendant to make him good, but it was quite uselesa. Although he had no direct evidence to connect the defendant with the theft he had missed other things. The boy left in January, 1925, and it was impossible for anyone else to gain admittance to the house because of his dogs. It would appear that the defendant. being familiar with the animals and the house, entered it and 'stole the articles. He suggested that the boy should be logged and banisher, as it would be useless sending him to gaol.
Mr. Lindsell said' Bogging was not provided for such offences.
Sert. Rozesky said the defen- dunt was arrested in a tea shop, with the wrist watch and the tongue-scraper, which had been converted into á bangle
The defendant was sent to pri- son for six months.

Mr. Cholmeley, Headmaster of: Owen's School, Islington, said that there was undoubtedly a sort of general suspicion, of business as

Mr. Court, another handmaster, said he had placed twenty of his boys in a famous store, and when getting on they had complained he had gone to see how they wer that they liked the work, but that there were no prospects.
