BRIDGE SWEPT AWAY BY ICE-Thousands of tons of ico, borne downstream by the flooded Allegheny River at Franklin, orerted such tremendous proesure that this big steel bridge was broken in half and part of it swept away. The upper piotüre shows two spans of the bridge lodged upright, in an iso gorge some distance below their original location. They overturned when first carried away but later were set upright by the pressure. Below is what is left of the bridge, showing several apans still in position after the ice wrenched the others away.
