After he had returned from Hail Brutton's and refused to go and see Johnson Stokes and Master he. wrote a letter to Detective In- spector Grant telling him all the facts, of the case which he knew.
His Lordship: You knew this; was a forgery, why did you go to Hall Brutton's to enquire about the costs of the case?-I didn't want to have anything to do with it, only went to ask about the costs of the case.
But why did you go and enquire about the costs of the case when you knew this was'n forgery?—I said I was not prepared to do any thing but he asked me to go to Brutton's to enquire about the costs of the case.
His Lordship: can't under- stand why a man with your legal knowledge should have had any thing to do with it at all.
