WOMEN'S INTERESTS
WHAT SHALL WE WEAR?
A scalloped effect is tremendous- ly popular on a simple frock. Hemlines which are straight, aro given an irregular appoárance by tiers of scallops which rise on one side only. Sleeves complete the effect by being likewise adorned in rows; others are given added width by a scalloped band, from the armpit to the wrist. They need not be conventionally cut, but shaped. in any number of pretty ways.
Tiny veils are being worn again just across the oyes. Since they are seen with the now spring models it is the sign of a revival. Multi-coloured evening capes are a concession to the hard-up woman. One cape was composed of graduated bands of yellow, lavender, and silver, with an inside lining of a much deeper | shade of mauve. "Another was of the new puce shade, with bands of midnight bluo, dụck's-ogg blue, and gold tissue,

a slightly more formal moment, all milady had to do way remove her cost and slip on a matching tunic of uncrushable georgette over the suede frock. A delightful | ensemble was im- mediately obtained,
Sleeves which possess a certain amount of fussiness below the elbow to the wrist are enjoying a vogue. A novelty is a sleave with a kind of magic-iantern pleating ruund the bottoni. These are even complete to the rather indefinite splashes of colour, worked with fine silk threads.
It seems that although blue is the predicted spring colour it is more than likely to be eclipsed by green, of which ovary possible shade is assuming tremendous importance.
Little frocks which combine sutin and pique are a new idea. They are made on semi-tailored lines, and ofton adorned with a large flower shoulder posy.

the plain stockinette sleeves ceased, and there appeared big "balloons" of figured silk.
The greater number of balloon Isleoves, however, appear upon afternoon gowns. The fact that balloons usually "puff out" below perfectly plain and often quite tight-fitting sleeves make thom all the more conspicuous."
Balloon sleeves are mostly made from different material from the stuff of the frock which they decorate, and are some- tims of soft satin, but more often they are made from silk of tho sort that will stand alone. This helps the "big ball" to ro main expanded.

WHEN YOU BUY STOCKINGS.
Stockings are frequently offered at bargain" prices, but there is little economy in buying porished or inferior goods, for they last so short a time.

Look out for inequalities of weave and irregularities in the texture. These quickly become Jadders. Take particular notico
of the marks at the side of the log seam; see that they really are "Fashion" marks, and that the stocking takes its shape and full- ness from them. In choap stockings they are frequently im-.] itations.
Examine the with at the top,and see that it will give sufficient play for bonding the knees, and if the stockings have cotton tops make certain there is a ladder-proof stripe hotweon the cotton and the silk. It can be seen in the form of crossed threads at the joint This tiny knots so formed prevort suspended ladders from ruaning down the stocking.
Bosidos make secure that the stocking is the right size, see that the inside of the foot is almost straight. This ensures plenty of room for the toes. An even bot- ter fit is the stocking that is finished with a small horizontal seam at the toes, instead of a woven finish. -
COLOURS THAT ARE BECOMING.
"PARENT"
Because it is taffeta and because it is quaintly flowered, because it was designed for youth and because it is pink and yellow, this frock chooses a tight bodice and full skirts to harmonize all its attributes. A yoke of double chiffon," tinted yellow, and a coquettish scoilop at each side of the skirt
are deft touches.
