LAST NIGHTS CONCERT.

FOUR TALENTED VOCALISTS.

Last night's concert in St. John's Cathedral Hall, in aid of the Organ Fund, was the last of the series, and it must most as- suredly be voted the best. De- spite the inclement weather, there was quite a good attendance, and those present spent a most enjoy- able hour listening to the feast of good things provided by four most talented vocalists.

Firat she gave the Jewel Song from "Faust," and later followed with three hracket- ed songs of varying theme, all be- ing moat artistically sung, `.

The pqancusor of a rich con- tralto volee of remarkable range and purity, Mrs. Watt was respon-" sible for four songs, of which Handel's popular "Ombra mai fu" and Elgar's "Like to the Damask Rose" were the best, although ini each number she displayed mark) ed ability.

Mr. Li Chor-chi enhanced his reputation as a pleasing, baritone by his rendering of two French songs, and he was deservedly en- cored,

Mr. H. E. Gardner, who is now a great favourite on the local con- cert platform, made two appear. Ances. A polished singer, he was brilliant in all his numbers, and on each appearance he was recall-i ed. He is undoubtedly one of the i finest tenors Hongkong has ever | Chad.

LITTLE ADVANCE TO

London, April 14. A continuous series of confer- ences all day has apparently done

The most impor- tant meatings have been betweer the Miners Executive, and the Trade Union Congress Industrial Committee, at which the latter pr tested against the action of the owners abandoning national negotiations and reiterated their "determination to support the miners' resistance to the degrado. tion of the standard of living. Later, the owners conferred with Sir Arthur Steel Maitland and an-] nounced their intention to post no- tices terminating the agreements on April 30. In the meantime they have offered to confer, with the miners' district associations re- garding the local regulation of wages,
